Parsing C is notoriously difficult because its grammar is context-sensitive and inherently ambiguous, breaking the clean separation between a compiler's lexer (which turns text into tokens) and its parser (which builds the syntax tree). Unlike modern languages designed to be easily processed with a single token of lookahead (like Go's func or Python's def), C was written in an era before formal grammars were widely adopted for programming languages, prioritizing memory-constrained, single-passβ¦

C is slow as molasses on an 8-bit microcomputer. there was a time when C was considered the slow, bloated compiled language believe it or not. C was meant for big, expensive 16-bit minicomputers. BASIC, Pascal and Forth all compiled faster on a typical home computer. Forth is about as low-level as you can go and still be considered a high-level language.
