Thanks, forgot about law of sines, and the fact that the angles sum to 180Β°. I arrived at alt = R(cos(ΞΈ/2)+sin(ΞΈ/2)cot(FOV/2)-1), and calculated an altitude of 5,639,229m for my probe, which seems plausible.
