Anthropic literally stated in their S-1 they're going to go hard on capex next year, basically as soon as their IPO. Their capex has effectively been 0 since the company was founded. The reason why they're going to build their own datacenters is because they've awkwardly got themselves into a situation where their hyperscaler compute deals have tied them up with their competitors (Google and Musk) who try to compete with frontier AI and have more compute.
