Nvidia isn't some niche vendor. If the largest GPU vendor didn't work on the old solution, either, that'd be one thing, but a DE vendor really should pay attention to whether or not their decision to support a backend or not negatively impacts a significant amount of users. It's easy to say "my NEW solution is perfect, the world just needs to adopt it", but it's not a reasonable stance when you deliver software downstream of that.
