𓀐 @-6bwKHF4: The thing I didnt try because I dont have the hardware is if there is a difference with top tier SSDs paired with top tier CPUs. A faster CPU than my 5800X3D could compress at roughly double the speed and a faster nvme ssd could read up to 14GB/s compared to my older nvme ssd who is limited to 2GB/s. DDR4 RAM is 24GB/s. Maybe if you have swap on NVME SSDs of the latest generation in raid 0 you could compensate for the missing ram?+

𓀐 @JvCZtoBj: Is upgrading from a 27 inch 1440p to a 27 inch 2160p worth it or is it a complete waste? my gpu is a 5080 I know that the ppi difference of 108 and 163 sounds nice, but I have no idea how much of it is actually visible to the eye.+ 1

𓀐 @kA~qFYid: if pc parts weren't that expensive atm, the internet would have broken down by now, from all the jeets uploading their sloppa and larping as blonde females. Maybe increasing the prices and limiting gpu access was the only way to prevent a jeetpocalypse of the interwebs.+

𓀐 @Gm6_~PwQ: this kid makes it sounds like graphics accelerators didn't exist before 1999, or that they were only ever used for games. he points out nvidia coined the term gpu, which i believe is true, but he wrongly assumed that means they didn't exist before. only the term was new. people had been playing 3D games using chips to handle the 3D math for many years before 1999 (from arcade machines to consoles to pc cards). also, he just completely fails to mention 3D hardware not intended for games in the first place, SGI says hi.+

𓀐 @kY-koxmm: without video games would there have been enough demand for GPUs to really push the technology to the point where it is today? 3d rendering maybe?+ 1

𓀐 @DQ*iV2ke: hello everyone for some reason, an itch to buy stuff has stricken me. I am considering upgrading from a i5-13600k to a i7-14700k. same socket and good psu so no additional parts are required. other specs include a 4080, 32gb, plenty of (quick) storage. would this be a mistake/waste of money? i don't do any video rendering, but i do multitask a lot. any opinions would be appreciated+ 5

𓀐 @aMnEzZ2i: Ive got an I7 9700k and a 2080. Been considering to upgrade but cant afford to upgrade everything at once, so I need to first upgrade my mobo/cpu/ram or my gpu. I was thinking of getting a 7800x3d cpu and a rt9060, but am not sure on the order, and been getting some conflicting answers, what would be the more noticeable upgrade for 1440p?+

𓀐 @uqiz6_yF: Just me or is 13 lb-in unusually high? I got a used ROME CPU and spec says use the driver it came with, but I don't have that. Reading online people seem to say to use 13 lb-in. I tried that on a case screw and man that's a lot of torque. I tightened the CPU finger tight for now, should I just torque it down?+ 2
