Advice for new runners: - Build up speed and mileage SLOOOOOWLY (start with 15 minutes, increase mileage at most 10% per week); - It will feel like you're going slow, you are; don't worry about setting good times for a couple of months; - If you start to feel pain anywhere, stop and rest; - Don't try to copy what pros are doing. Do what feels natural; and - Once you can comfortably roon 6 miles/10km, start thinking about a goal in terms of race distance and time, and look for a training plan for that goal (see below for suggested plans). >Couch to 5k/Bridge to 10k Guides https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/running-and-aerobic-exercises/get-running-with-couch-to-5k/ https://i.imgur.com/ef98R.png https://i.imgur.com/qNJIy.png >I want to run a fast 5k, 10k, half-marathon, or marathon https://www.runningfastr.com/ https://www.halhigdon.com/ cock and ball torture https://sites.google.com/view/sub-threshold/home >I want to stretch https://www.runnersworld.com/uk/training/beginners/a32172701/how-to-stretch-post-run/ >Performance calculators https://runbundle.com/tools/age-grading-calculator https://vdoto2.com/calculator/ https://runrepeat.com/how-do-you-masure-up-the-runners-percentile-calculator https://lactrace.com/norwegian-singles

𓀐 @cZYubn_~: Running a marathon this weekend. Ever since my last 21mi long run my leg has been acting up and I've been dealing with tendonitis. It's feeling okay rn but my knee is still tight and my shin hurts a bit. I'll use KT tape to patch it up and hope I can finish the race. Any last minute tips to help me get across the finish line?+

𓀐 @DA+n3Aa8: Well my hilly parkrun was cancelled today due to weather so I'll have to crack 30 mins there next week. I drove an hour to get to a different one, much flatter, bit undulating as you go but way better than what I am used to. Absolutely soaked through though, it was hard to breathe honestly with my shirt stuck to me in the wet. Also I couldn't see through my glasses very well. So about half way through I was feeling shattered, thinking about walking, when a guy goes past saying he was helping this guy to get a PB, I said I was going for one as well, he said well you're on for about 25mins so far. Couldn't fucking believe that so I just kept going, ended up with 26:45. Dead chuffed, about 4 mins faster than last week, mostly because there was no massive hill at the end. First time doing a different 5k so it's good to know what I can do on a flat-ish course. Actually looking it up now, it's apparently a 31m elevation gain, huh, didn't realise it was that much. I guess compared to the 125m I'm used to it didn't feel like a lot.+

𓀐 @9iNv-APU: Knee was feeling better finally, so went for a run. My heart lost so much conditioning after 2 weeks off. Going to try and take it easier this time. Only four days/week and fewer miles for now. Saw a big heron in the river.+ 1

𓀐 @rq8eAzrG: How the fuck do you run slower? I've been doing 5K runs 2 or 3 times a week for the last couple of months just to keep myself fit (I'm stuck in Texas for work so can't go hillwalking every week list I'd normally do). I've been looking at running longer distances and the general advice is to run slower while building up distance. My 5K time is 22-23 minutes on a normal day. I tried running slower and it felt awkward as fuck like I was going so slow I was going to just fall over and ended up doing the 5K in like 1 minute slower than my usual time.+

𓀐 @veD9t-zt: I think you underestimate the power of the bicyclemaxxed dutch lifestyle. Even if you think you weren't doing any relevant speed, sometimes you are inevitably going against the wind plus your underinflated tires plus your soggy nexus 7 internal gear hub. And you were doing like an hour or so of this exercise a day. Maybe sometimes it was barely zone 2 level but either way I think this stuff builds legs and hearts. My school cycling was only like 50km per week but i was retarded so i was always late so it was more of a sprint at least in the morning. When I picked up running recently after years of not even owning a bike I did 5km in 24 mins or so on my first run. I think there is a huge range of fitness levels that people consider "couch potato", depending a lot on the lifestyle in your country. Like I think even at my laziest i would get a 5000 stepcount while americans can manage to stay under 2000 somehow by taking out the trash by car etc.+

𓀐 @Cy3mnQp-: How do I learn to pace myself better? Often when I go for an easy run, I find myself going faster than I want, somewhere between easy and marathon pace. I can still maintain it for as long as I aimed to run, but it's obviously more effort, and well it's not an easy run anymore.+
