For some people, \"Working my ass off\" means working 60 hour weeks. For me, \"Working my ass off\" means working 20 hour weeks. I am not joking, and I am not ashamed to admit this, because pushing myself to consistently work 20 hour weeks takes a very clear toll on my health and wellbeing, and it can only persist so long as I put a significant degree of force into keeping it this way. Every day, I wake up and my brain is effectively screaming at me to just play Counterstrike and zone out to music while I eat goyslop. To even fight this urge, to even be productive enough to write long-form text on the internet, I'm inculcating a certain amount of stress. If I then put a timer on and say, \"Now you've got to do 4 hours of programming\", I get significantly more stressed. The fact of the matter is that most of you can work 20 hours in a week without stress, without your hair falling out, without insomnia, without depression, without your skin going gray. I cannot. If I adopt this lifestyle, my health just gets absolutely and relentlessly torpedoed until I abandon this lifestyle. I have had multiple jobs -- both blue collar and white collar -- and this rule has held fast. I used to feel shame when I told people I don't work. I no longer feel this shame, because I know for a fact that I'm not doing anything wrong here. I take neither recreational nor psychiatric drugs. I do a 30 minute brisk walk each day. I get morning and evening sunlight exposure. I cut out nighttime blue light exposure. I've tried many \"fad diets\". There's virtually nothing else I can even conceive of, to explain what may be \"flawed\" about my lifestyle or why it is that I cannot work. Every day, I have to push myself to the brink to extract an amount of labor from myself which for the average person is nigh-on effortless. And there's no solution.","topicHash":"0447196ba9b8e4a587001ab0fbc2df00ada80f5c88d68891e15f032e45321e8a","topicName":"literature","parentHash":null,"costSunk":"0","biasSupport":0,"biasOppose":0,"biasVouch":0,"biasNull":0,"blockHeight":null,"confirmations":0,"timestamp":"2026-11-04T22:07:55.991Z","tripFp":"7ee23bddd592","viewCount":0,"powDifficulty":0,"relation":0,"ephemeral":true,"nonce":"3c19bceb47d10cae","sig":"94772bc083243f8263b9d06ae273b2a54da3cb48fa770adda10b3433052edac6afe3be8aa3edc5dd37e11aaeee98e3a8f5b93c97e4d15f79c69b362d9c5190dd","ephStamp":{"blockHashHex":"0000000000000000000012c7a5d3cf979ce0097a957ec8b990d56d21251ffeba","nonceHex":"0cff030000000000"},"replyCount":0,"chainReplyCount":0,"vaporReplyCount":0,"clusterSize":1,"receiptHeight":974593,"expiryHeight":978913,"authorMarks":{"since":"2026-11-04T19:07:56.790Z","via":"sight","inscribed":0,"likes":0,"biases":0},"lang":"en","servedBy":{"host":"6af58b1822e0cabfe57d76540f745d059b438f489a796ec6a705c6540233845e","t":"2026-11-08T22:55:16.449Z","sig":"3d79563e7969a591927386fb5fece05db06ab0bd33b9fc993f92ce208eeb502b02cbdf7ea20e6404c2a0973af61515658a9ab2439dda4ed7c714cb9c7170ad9e","h":"00000000000000000000a9cbdfaf6e8c944aa3dcf5f18c8125f29612ba96b9e0"}}
