I shouldn't have NEETed for so long, I should've worked any shit job I could years ago to save up and buy hardware before prices went vertical. I've been trying to use a new VN-style frontend/game and even at a copequant it barely works on my vramlet machine. Some of that is probably prompting inefficiencies on the game's part but it's so apparent how much dumber models are the smaller and more quantized they are. Unironically considering turning to brigandage. NVidia and Anthropic sitting on warehouses of unused GPUs isn't just a rumor, right? I'm curious, How does renting hardware to host models on compare in terms of cost and privacy to just being a cloudcuck?⏱ 1w↩ 1
Stop being stupid and just use the cloud subscription while they're still usable idiot. In a year cloud subscriptions will be high priced, their models will be safetycucked, and hardware for local that will be smart but that you can't run will be twice as expensive as it is now. Then you'll realize you wasted your only cahnce at using something decent fiddling with local instead of using cloud while the gettings good.⏱ 1w↩
