𓀐 @iJY*-MFP: Fedora KDE: Is there a way to summon a temporary terminal that kills itself when it's no longer focused? I just went on an adventure with the bot and it spit out some bash script that will probably kill the wrong process someday. Usecase: temporary ncmpcpp instance I summon with a hotkey+

𓀐 @gZrn?uBJ: It uses about a gig with nothing but Konsole open so if you really had to push it then it can use less RAM. https://pastebin.com/raw/kBsT7JTX I don't know why I have some GNOME services here though. I think some of these can go. >from what I can see there is no benefit to this OS unless your hardware is extremely underpowered Pretty much. I ran Gentoo before but I don't actually use this laptop enough for Gentoo to be worthwhile. I was using my desktop as a binhost but still not really worth it. With Alpine at least I can quickly update the packages with apk the few times I use it.+

𓀐 @~J5TLx8s: is openwrt hard to install and configure? i figure i just flash my existing router software, should be easy. but looking at configuring it it seems like linux from scratch. i am just a apu with linux mint, will this be too hard for me? i just want a sensible updatable router+

𓀐 @hesxKPXz: I don't think that's them. It's just the default that ships with pacman I imagine and there was a new / updated one I just hadn't merged the .pacnew file. You need to do that manually, Arch will never update config files for you.+

𓀐 @yTvN2Qon: >On Debian, Ubuntu, and derivative Linux distributions, an on-path attacker who can manipulate the HTTP traffic (including a malicious mirror or proxy) between an APT client and an archive server triggered by a package install can trick the client into installing an attacker-controlled unverified package and achieve remote code execution with root privileges. https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2026-109518 Apt high vulnerability in Debian 12 onwards and Debian-based distributions. Time to change your sources URIs to HTTPS. I'm done being told HTTP is fine because APT verifies them anyway.+

𓀐 @apQax4+M: I wonder if https can really protect you there with the apt cve. Does it redirect? Wouldn't that cause a certificate issue? What if the mirror is pozzed?+

𓀐 @Yyff74GX: Help me Anons, I'm looking for a lightweight distribution for learning Linux. Only CLI (sadly it eliminates most live distributions), bash, awk, grep, sed, python, C, Fortran, Emacs, man. That's all. PS: Is there any spreadsheet software working in text mode?+

𓀐 @~c*7TeKv: Should I run Fedora or Arch? The only thing keeping me on Fedora is SELinux protections, official Google Chrome repo, and generally being a high quality, well supported OS. I don't want to run Flatpak Chrome or deal with AUR busywork and maintenance overhead. But Arch Extra repo has lots of desktop-relevant packages. To do the same on Fedora requires COPR which is untrustworthy.+ 1

𓀐 @tLGGnSGk: >try lxqt >ram usage seems high for something that’s supposed to be lightweight >open up all of its common programs >the ram usage barely moves an inch, less than opening a single nautilus or dolphin window I get it now. Why the fuck don’t DE comparisons point this out? Lxqt is insanely tightly integrated apparently but everyone just compares ram use at boot with nothing open. Essentially it seems like you pay more upfront with lxqt (still less than a bigger DE) but way less when you actually start using the damn computer. I know KDE and GNOME do this to an extent but nothing close to how extreme it is here, literally like 10mb for a file manager window.+
