𓀐 @3MUi?Nh*: Because it's a solid programming language. Very secure, too.+ 7

𓀐 @D3-Q5YuT: I have never used Rust, I am programming in TypeScript at work and even at home for hobby projects. I wonder how Rust would work if I would use it for a project with a javascript frontend and a rust backend+ 4

𓀐 @Gnxdsemc: rust is good with performance, very safe to code with, and AI is really good at coding with it because it can check it's own work quickly it's really not that bad+ 1

𓀐 @u*JZZiMo: If your backend is IO-bound(which is most of them) then you will get no significant advantage at cost of significant cognitive overhead if you use Rust over TypeScript. It only really makes sense to do this if for example you have already sizable Rust project and want to add simple front end to it(eg status page). If you want to try Rust, just pick something more aligned with systems programming. A compression or cryptographic library, renderer, cli utility, physics simulation, etc. Webdev in Rust in general is difficult (especially async) and too rigid for typical web tasks/workflows.+

𓀐 @UiZUBYWs: Depending if you trust Sonatype or StepSecurity, NPM accounts for 75-90% of EVERY supply chain attack. Of all the shit to lay at Rust's feet, supply chain attacks aren't it. Not yet, anyway.+

𓀐 @KdZjNbTn: people are lemmings, they only do things because they're trendy and popular, rust is the only popular "low level" language anyone is willing to talk about, C is everywhere but it's not trendy, it's also associated with boomers and chuds, and trans people make up the majority of hobbyist programmers these days, they will not be touching C code or creating new C projects.+ 3

𓀐 @Wr8c58Y5: >C is everywhere but it's not trendy, Can you name any new notable C project that was started in this decade? Just because there is tons of legacy C projects doesn't mean it's suitable for greenfield projects.+ 2

𓀐 @8pvoNyay: Nta https://github.com/ggml-org/llama.cpp Fun fact. It was originally created because the head maintainer wanted to run LLMs on his MacBook, and now Apple Silicon is one of the best platforms to run local models on from a price to performance and convenience perspective.+

𓀐 @k2L_?*ft: I do not have a single application, that is written in Rust, installed on my machine. Not even one. And i don't even try to avoid it. There just isn't anything worth using that is written in Rust.+

𓀐 @upfsFuWf: I do not have a single application installed that is written in Rust. Nodejs isn't written in Rust. Firefox isn't written in Rust. That 0.1 % of the code of Firefox is in Rust (a CSS parser), doesn't justify a claim that it would be written in Rust. It is not. Also reminder that Mozilla is literally the company that created Rust, yet, after over a decade of doing so, the best thing they could create with it was a CSS parser.+

𓀐 @JaTY53?n: I actually thought you would at least be using a different browser than firefox (I assume chromium does not use rust here) and I was willing to believe you actually had control over not having anything written with rust installed but the fact you actually use firefox and that you are dying on the hill of firefox not being a rust application is not a good look for you lmao+

𓀐 @6n3_?TZE: anon, you try to make the argument that something would be "written in Rust", just because you found an .rs file within the 0.5% of Others. And your prestige project for that claim is a webbrowser that is notoriously slow, got even slower in the past years, and that had a marketshare of 35% once and now is at 4% or so. There are so many ways in which you are retarded here, and you will get attacked for all of them, because leaving one out would mean that you assume the claim would be accepted. The Rust team that developed Rust at Mozilla got laid off as well. The creators of the language. The best people at it. Produced nothing of value and then got the boot.+

𓀐 @awSQY-mY: Brandon Eich is not a programmer, he didn't create Rust. Graydon Hoare was the guy who started Rust in his free time. Mozilla only later entered the picture by sponsoring the project. Hoare later stepped down from the project, core team was formed and eventually Rust formed an independent foundation sponsored by largest IT corporations.+

𓀐 @P7St68?_: >C isn't a high level programming language anymore. It is. It offers high level abstractions and operates on an abstract machine rather than mapping to machine instructions. >If you prefer an other formulation, "C gives you the choice to assume your bad decisions". Every systems programming language allows you to do that. The difference between C and C++/Rust is that C is just barebones and lacks OOP and FP features. Electron is notorious for high RAM usage.+

𓀐 @sCM5Xxj+: Retard. LLM scrappers made my website unusable and I had no such heavy hitting endpoints. It is pretty lightweight and optimized, but if you get hundreds of requests per second to search endpoint then any single instance will choke. I had to create a honeypot scheme by injecting random invisible banning links and also run heuristic on logs to ban them. It didn't catch them all but enough to not have website going down for most of the day.+

𓀐 @d+Qyfj*3: >supports no-js environments Doesn't make much of a difference. Generating an HTML, rather than returning a JSON, just means to concentrate some strings. And scrapers do execute JS, so a modern SPA would have the same issue. That 50ms query looks horrid. Whoever put this together already capitulated and accepted his fate of a full table scan. Why LIKE pat? Is it just adding wildcards to this? If i search for the tag nigger, will it then do LIKE '%nigger%'? Or even worse, is it doing LIKE nigger and commits to a full table scan to something that could be a covering index? This is what you have to look for. That is your issue. Choose your fights. If you can make your query ten times faster, do that >some user input could launch super complex queries But not the LLM scraper, that one is just clicking on buttons. >Depends on what you mean by application level. Just banning them in your application would not really solve an issue of flood like this. Firewall is what you need. what you mean is a basic bitch fail2ban+
