I think that if the prevailing notion of experts in their field points towards a particular viewpoint then it's probably correct. That's not taking something as gospel like you like to pretend. I also understand that if you have no expertise in a field of study then your ability to verify such matters is going to be limited, but I doubt you'll cop to that simple fact either because you'd like to be both a layman and an expert at the same time.
