I just reread Mistborn. It's been a few years since I read it, but it was one of my first modern "adult" fantasy novels. I remembered it being better. With all the emdashes and "it's not x -- it's y" in the book, if it came out today I'd start a witch hunt. I guess this book was in the training data. For the book being 500 pages, the side characters feel simplistic and made of cardboard; everyone has only a couple defining desires. I'd forgotten all the side characters except Breeze, Sazed, and Kelsier. The plot itself is probably the best part, and it's what I remembered the most from before.
