𓀐 @WLMa_7g-: I can’t read or write normally anymore. The years of reading Japanese and Korean novels have completely fried my brain. I can't focus on long paragraphs. Heck, I find moving my eyes away from the left side of the screen to be exhausting. I want to be able to fix my sight on a certain point and read from top to bottom in one continuous scroll. That can't be healthy. But damn… It feels natural. It feels like home. Fuck.+

𓀐 @Xta8hov9: People like to joke about how webnovels are low effort literature, about how they are "Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues," but I can't for the life of me play the game like that, I need to know I did everything I can to make every individual chapter perfect in every way possible. It's exhausting, but worth it. Everyone should do their greatest effort when writing something with the intention of publishing and make patreon bucks. Why bother doing something if youre gonna do it wrong or sloppily?+

𓀐 @dd9?S~Ws: Hi. I am new to the webnovel scene, writing xianxia about hating yourself a whole lot and struggling to overcome people who hate you even more than you hate yourself. I am planning on smashing my face into royal road once I have enough of a backlog prepared. (Currently I have about 30 chapters but a lot of them are badly in need of an edit. I want to make sure that I start things off strong, even if I won't have time for constant editing if I start doing this for a living.) I'm reading the guides and learning a lot about how to market and hopefully make it to rising star- but I really really want someone to take a look at what I've got and tell me if I'm even remotely on the right track. I write a lot, but I've never (seriously) written cultivation/xianxia before this. If anyone would take a look, I'd be really pleased. Even if you just open it, read five sentences, and say "This is bad, I stopped reading because of [reason]" that would help a ton! Thank you. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NzSs11CpjA8uzLbTZOg2S9x46AhwcsGye3vItCIqIC8/edit?usp=sharing Thank you!+

𓀐 @2cp2s~yk: >https://www.royalroad.com/pages/advertising-faq >$55 is the minimum to publish an ad with about 1% of chances of bringing about new patrons. I only publish 3 chapters per week, so I'm merely seconds on Latest Updates every couple days. I only have 2 paying patrons, (not even close to covering those $55 anyte soon), and my general discoverability on RR has been very low, but there's no way I'm paying for ads. I doubt Primal Hunter and New Life as an Archmage ever spent money on ads. I'm sure they're proof that when your story is good, word-of-mouth is more than enough to get discovered by the masses... or what do you think?+ 1

You gotta remember there's a lot of very skilled artists living in very low income countries where cheap commissions at good quality do make them a strong living. 𓀐 @twFn?+CH: Since you’re so confident in your ability to judge good prose from bad, tell me how to improve this. (Not a real story, just an example of how I’ve been trying to write.) The phone rang for a good five minutes before Anon finally heaved himself upright. The floor tilted beneath him. He could swear he hadn’t touched a drop last night, so what do you call a hangover without the drinking? Right. Feeling like shit. He steadied himself on the edge of the mattress and dragged a hand through his thinning hair. The ringing hadn’t let up once. This was going to be painful. “You’re late,” a clipped, high-pitched voice said the second he picked up. Becky. He could picture her perfectly plucked eyebrows knotting together beneath that tight ponytail. “I know.” “You should’ve been here half an hour ago.” “I know.” “Where the hell are you? Don’t tell me you’re still at home.” “Fine, I won’t.” “Damn it, Anon. Get your ass over here right fucking now!” His grip tightened on the phone. Becky was his guild agent. She was young, pretty, and ambitious, with the skills to back it up, which was how she’d landed the job of representing one of the country’s top heroes in the first place. Lately, though, she’d gotten into the nasty habit of acting like he worked for her instead of the other way around, as if he couldn’t snap her tight little body in half like a Barbie doll. “Never take that tone with me,” he said. “I spent sixteen hours yesterday clearing the Goblin Dungeon. Not the army. Not Sam’s party. Me.” Silence. Then: “That’s exactly why we need you. We’re running out of time before the next incursion.” She paused. “Anon, I wish there were somebody else I could call. I really do. But you’re the only A-rank delver in the tri-state area, and a lot of good people are going to die unless you step up. I hope you understand that.” Her last words practically dripped honey. The girl knew exactly how to push his buttons. He groaned. “I know. I’ll be there.”+

The fans pick teams based on which girl they want to "win." If it is made clear the MC will never pick anyone and there will be no winner then the entire idea falls apart.+ 1

𓀐 @9agDqfwY: Over 100 novels release on amazon alone EACH DAY. About 700 novels in the week around your release. Webnovel release? Successful litrpg isekai or xianxia cultivation, in your genre? BOOM you are done. Also, not only are you competing with other new releases, but the entire backlog of novels on every website or e-reader a reader uses. :) Take all the "indie success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of writers in that time who have tried (again, 100 novels a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "making it." Patreon cut, publisher cuts, higher self-employment taxes, no benefits, no retirement, AND to top it all off: Your sales diminish over time, so even if you hit this "mediocrity lottery" you'll have to do it all over again in a couple years. >He thinks that indie writing can provide a sustainable primary income in 2026 Hahahahaha H O B B Y O B B Y+ 4
