𓀐 @mp8sjdYp: Last few parts to my first server are ariving in a few days. I'm quite happy. Uses: Hosting private game servers, VMs, and as a renderslave for my blender animations (running with my main desktop through a manager) Any reason not to run Ubuntu LTS Desktop on it? There's trendy stuff like Pop!OS that I tried before but idk. I'll need Nvidia drivers tho, for the rendering stuff.+

𓀐 @Xdq?JaJR: I'm thinking about removing my ISP's router/modem because it serves no purpose. Any good cheap modems that take a fiber SFP module and have an RJ45 port?+

𓀐 @_F7aces*: I've never done that so it's kinda scary How do you even debug? Setup? All that jazz as headless? I was planning on using desktop for setting things up then unplugging the output once I got everything ready+

𓀐 @~pGs*deG: i finally found a use case for this thing /hsg/ just look at it it has: > 2 cores > 2 threads > runs at 1.58ghz (with a 2.16ghz boost) > 1mb of cache it's now attached to an usb printer and runs cups and a docker container with scanservjs+

Some vms for git, web server and dev with libvirt A lxc for qwen uncen with 3 tps, got 5 tps after tunning, tried 3-4 times then shut off because of its overthinking Power supply isnt stable, 2 times reset a month when Im not at home Having 4 months doing some stupid shit just to know about the vms, backups, upgrade+

𓀐 @TGtPPo2q: My home server is up, running OMV, got a 12gb RTX3060 running Ollama/Open WebUI and soon ComfyUI all in Docker containers. Problem is because Debian is retarded with Nvidia, I had to resort to using ChatGPT to walk me through getting my GPU working with this setup because the current Debian kernel version doesn't work with the Nvidia driver. It got pretty involved and I had to do a ton of shit. What is the "normal" way to get this up and running without having to jump through a fuckload of hoops and needing an LLM to hold my hand through it?+

𓀐 @Vcv-iDD8: What software do you use for backups? rsync isn't smart enough to figure out if the folder was deleted or moved, leading to a potentially huge amount of unnecessary reads and writes.+

𓀐 @djHWm_S=: I wanna buy something powerful for local AI that I can just have always on in the background. That plus I woudln't mind offloading a few services running on an old lenovo laptop to it. And maybe the occassional batch video re-encode. Thing is, I missed the train for the M4 mac mini and they're horrendously overpriced now on the 2nd-hand market. There's also the M6 which is similarly overpriced. I found a listing of a M2 Pro Mac Mini for an equivalent of $400~, should I go for it or is it too weak for what I want to do in today's climate?+

𓀐 @?ajbF+Sz: I was just told that the M-series mac minis were sufficient. Am I being lied to??? yeah I won't be doing video or any media generation on it. just llm stuff for coding assist well shit if it takes that much...+

𓀐 @XnK**czA: You just configure the Docker daemon.json with a subnet to use from the /56 that your ISP allocates you; { "ipv6": true, "fixed-cidr-v6": "2001:db8:3f7a:2c19:8b4e::/80", "bridge-accept-fwmark": "0x1", "allow-direct-routing": true } That's not my real IPv6 prefix I changed it to one from the documentation range as an example. You can use the fwmark in nftables for firewall rules to allow traffic (since it's routed directly to the container / no docker-proxy or dnat, etc). At least I think that's right from what I was able to figure out. The documentation isn't great. Give your LLM this comment and ask it to explain it.+

𓀐 @9vL*NUaZ: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1086667996/beelink-me-pro-nas A kickstarter. For a NAS. From a company that I'm pretty sure doesn't struggle making these. But I can't lie that I'm kinda tempted from that early bird price. Right now I've just got one of their mini PCs with an external drive hooked up. A more proper NAS with actual drive bays would be nice.+
